sheflerra, and hibiscis. Others can be used, as long as they are full leafed and non-toxic. Real plants provide many benefits for your chameleon. A plant aerates the cage, which can decrease the chances of your chameleon contracting an upper respiratory infection, as well as providing for fresh air in the cage. Plants such as pothos' can actually remove some contaminants from the air. The leaves of a plant also provide a means for drinking, allows them to seek out refuge, and allows them to regulate their body temperature by moving in and out of a basking spot. A word of caution, however: we have heard from several nurseries that pothos' are toxic and can cause illness if ingested, so it may be best to use something else for vegetation-eating chameleons, such as Veiled Chameleons (Chamaeleo calyptratus).
