Carpet Chameleon

Carpet Chameleons, also known as Jeweled Chameleons, vary greatly in size according to their
subspecies. There are currently three known subspecies of Carpet Chameleons, which are Chamaeleo
lateralis lateralis, C. l. moderatus, and C. l. major. The C. l. lateralis subspecies grows to
a maximum of about 6 inches in total length, while individuals of the C. l. major subspecies can
grow to over twice that size, up to 14 inches. The C. l. moderatus subspecies is not as popular
as the other two, but is believed to grow to about 8-10 inches in total length. Carpet Chameleons
have very bright and interesting color patterns that range greatly between individuals. The males
are usually bright green, with occasional blues, whites, and yellows throughout their bodies. They
have a single white lateral stripe on both sides of their bodies. Females share similar colors as
the males in their rest colors, but take on a black body with yellow, green, red, orange, and blue
spots and stripes while gravid or unreceptive towards males. The C. l. lateralis subspecies have
