Flap-Necked Chameleon
(chamaeleo dilepsis)
Flap-Necked Chameleons come from Tanzania. They live in areas where the teperatures are moderate,
but can stand temperatures as cold as 40°F and as warm as 95°F, but with high humidity and only for
short periods of time. Male and female Flap-Necked Chameleons look very similar, but the males of
the species have small ankle spurs on their back feet. Both males and females grow to about 12
inches in total length.
Relaxed colors of this species are a light green with a small white stripe
along their sides. When they get excited, they quikly acquire small black dots throughout their bodies.
Females lay between 20-30 eggs after a gestation period of about a month. The eggs hatch after an incubation
of 6 to 7 months.When gravid females come into contact with a male, they turn almost sompletely black and begin
to head-butt the intruding male.
