The Giant Oustallet's Chameleon is one of the largest chameleons, sometimes exceeding two feet in length. But there is also a smaller morph of the species that grows between 15 and 17 inches. They inhabit the dry, rocky desert areas of Madagascar. Due to their environment, they have adapted many traits to survive in the harsh climates where they live. Female Giant Oustallet's Chameleon can have fingernails that grow up to a quarter of an inch in length to combat around the rocky soil to lay their eggs. A female can lay from 30-40 eggs once a year with an incubation time of 9-12 months. They aslo have adpated the ability to live off of only a small amount of water because in the hot summer months, the only available water may be the dew collecting on leaves. The Giant Oustallet's Chameleon is not as beautiful as most other chamaeleo species. They are often dull in color and do not have the brilliant color changes as some other species.
