Panther Chameleon
(chamaeleo pardalis)
will eat their own young. They grow from 12-22 inches in length (about 18 inches
at most in captivity) and can live five to eight years if kept in good health. Females, however, live only
two to three years if they are bred extensively.
All Panther Chameleon's are sexually dimorphic, meaning the two sexes differ from each other in appearance.
The female of the species are dull in color and do not have the extreme color changes of the males, and are
only about one half to three-fourths the size of a male. Male Panthers are also a lot more aggressive than
the females. We have kept two female Diego Suarez Panthers together, throughout many egg-layings without any
problems arising. Male Panthers will turn violent if they see another male, and will have very vibrant color
changes. However, each chameleon is different, which therefore means they all have different temperaments.
One of our adult males cannot stand to be even 10 feet away from another male, and will
